March 15, a regular sitting of the National Assembly of Artsakh was convened.

Тhe draft amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh presented in the first reading was the issue of the agenda.

According to Zhirayr Mirzoyan, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Republic of Artsakh President's Office, the need to accept the project is to ensure the stability and continuity of the state administration system.

Taking into account the imperative to ensure the security of the Republic of Artsakh, the challenges facing the Republic of Artsakh, geopolitical and regional developments, as well as in order to ensure the flexibility of the state administration system under martial law, it is proposed to reserve the right to elect the President to the National Assembly.

After submitting the project the author suggested a one-week deadline for written proposals before the second reading.

The project was previously discussed at the meeting of the senior committee and received a positive conclusion.

NA President, Artur Tovmasyan and MP, Gegham Stepanyan, took part in the exchange of views.

The draft was then put to a vote and unanimously adopted in the first reading.

Next, Vice President of the National Assembly, Gagik Baghunts, announced the decision of the National Assembly.

"Guided by part 3 of Article 75 of the Law "Regulations of the National Assembly", the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh decides:

The deadline for submitting written proposals on the draft amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, adopted by the National Assembly in the first reading on March 15, 2023, is set to 5 pm on March 21 of the current year.”
