February 16 is the birthday of Artur Mkrtchyan, a statesman, the first Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Artsakh, a pioneer of the Karabakh movement.

Artsakh National Assembly President, Artur Tovmasyan, accompanied by the MPs, visited the Stepanakert memorial complex and laid flowers on the gravestone of Artur Mkrtchyan.

The period of realization of scientific preferences of the politician coincided with the rapid rise of the Karabakh liberation struggle and clan, rose in a depository family, received a thorough Armenian education, the young man, fed by national ideas, and threw him into the vortex of that struggle. "This land gave birth to me; I owe this land for what I have. Now is the time for compensation," Artur Mkrtchyan was of this conviction. Even today, the leadership is guided by the same idea.
