October 1, the President of the National Assembly Ashot Ghoulyan received the Co-Chair of the US House of Representatives, Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee Frank Pallone, who arrived in Artsakh on a two-day working visit. The congressman in Artsakh is accompanied by his assistant James Johnson, RA MPs Maria Karapetyan, Tsovinar Vardanyan and Republic of Artsakh Permanent Representative to the US Robert Avetisyan.
Greeting the Congressman, Ashot Ghoulyan stresses importance of his regular visits to Artsakh, noting that each visit is the basis for the introduction of the new initiatives and resolutions to the Congress.
The Head of the Parliament thanked the Congressman for the video messages of himself and his colleagues to the people of Artsakh on the 30th Anniversary of the Karabakh Movement, noting that besides inspiring the people of Artsakh, they also prove the United States' commitment to the absolute idea of freedom.
Congressman Frank Pallone Presents to the Parliament President his and his partners' future plans related to the need to maintain a secure balance in the region.
He also expressed confidence that the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict should only be resolved peacefully, preserving the present components of the Armenian identity of Artsakh and its security.
The meeting continued with the leadership of the NA Standing Committees and factions, members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
In his welcoming speech the NA President Ashot Ghoulyan noted, that such meetings make it possible to neutralize artificial attempts of Azerbaijan in isolating Artsakh and to disseminate objective and unbiased information about Artsakh in the United States and around the world. He referred to letters from Frank Pallone and the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues to the US Government and Congress and draft resolutions aimed at counteracting the aggressive policy of Azerbaijan in the region and to help ease the tensions.
During the meeting, the two sides underscored the importance of the US providing equal assistance to the conflicting countries in order to maintain a balance in the region. Issues related economy and energy of Artsakh have also been discussed.
Greeting those present, Congressman Frank Pallone noted that the main purpose of being in Artsakh is to show the world that Artsakh is an established and democratic state and that with their visits they should intensify cooperation and between Republic of Artsakh and USA.
Issues related to US humanitarian programs in Artsakh and their financing were discussed during the meeting. Deputy Foreign Minister Armine Alexanyan also participated in the meetings.
In the morning the Congressman Pallone and his delegation were met at the airport by the Vice-President of the National Assembly Vahram Balayan, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign Relations David Melkumyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Felix Khachatryan.
