Today, the first president of the NKR Supreme Council Arthur Mkrtchyan would have turned 59.

February 16, the deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh led by NA Speaker Ashot Ghoulyan visited Stepanakert memorial and paid tribute to the memory of Artur Mkrtchyan.

Then on the initiative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction, a discussion about as a scientist, a statesman, a politician and a pioneer of the Karabakh Movement, took place in the parliament.

Arthur Mkrtchyan was born in 1959. He was elected the first Chairman of the NKR Supreme Council on January 8, 1992. He died on April 14, 1992.

In 2001, he was posthumously awarded with the Order of St. Gregory the Illuminator for his services to his homeland.
