January 26, the President of the National Assembly Ashot Ghoulyan received a delegation led by Lars Adaktusson, Member of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Relations, who arrived in Stepanakert yesterday.
Welcoming the guests, the Head of the Parliament highlighted the visit of European partners to the fact that they contribute to the development of the European system of values in Artsakh.

"We very much appreciate the relations, which we have formed over the years with European structures," Ashot Ghoulyan said.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Lars Adaktusson noted that he is in Artsakh with a fact-finding mission. He expressed confidence that the information gathered during the visit will be useful in the formation of correct information about Artsakh and its application in future activities.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed human rights and fundamental freedoms, parliamentary cooperation, independence of the judiciary in Artsakh and the rule of law.
Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Arzik Mkhitaryan, Deputy Foreign Minister Armine Alexanyan, the Head of the Office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) Gaspar Karapetyan also took part in the meeting.
Then the delegation met with members of the "Republic of Artsakh - European Parliament" Friendship Group.
The Head of the Friendship Group, Vice-President of the National Assembly Vahram Balayan touched upon the obstacles in the foreign policy and underlined that the meetings in such format enable the voice of Artsakh to be heard.
Responding to MPs' questions, Adakussoon touched upon the Iraqi Kurds and the rights of Christians in Iraq and Syria, as well as Turkey's accession to the European Union.
During the meeting, the Artsakh parliamentarians exchanged views with the guests about the possible solutions to the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict, security, the 30th anniversary of Artsakh liberation struggle, other issues of local self-government and home political issues in Artsakh.
