1987-1990 – Procurer at the regional Procurement Administration

1988 - Became one of the activists of the Artsakh national liberation movement

1990 - Joined the Nagorno Karabakh self-defense forces

1992-1993 - Deputy Commander of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Committee of Defense Forces

1993-1995 - Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army Rear Staff Commander

1995-1996 - Deputy Commander of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army on foreign relations

1996-1997- Deputy Commander of the 10th highland infantry division of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army

1997-1999 - Assistant to the minister of interior of the Republic of Armenia
