Born on August 31, 1954 in the city of Stepanakert

Finished secondary school in Stepanakert

1972-1974 - Served in the Soviet army

1982 - Graduated from the Electro-technical faculty of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute with honors

1971 - Fitters, then a mechanical engineer at the Stepanakert Electro-technical Plant

1980 - Worked in the Komsomol and Party bodies of Nagorno-Karabakh

1989 and 1990 - Elected deputy of the Supreme Council of Armenia, then a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council

December 28, 1991 - Elected deputy of the NKR Supreme Council of the first convocation from the Stepanakert electoral district No 11

February 1988 - One of the leaders of the Artsakh movement: Member of the organization "Krunk", then the Head of the organization "Miatsum"

August, 1992 - Chairman of the State Defense Committee and Prime Minister of the NKR

November 24, 1994 - Elected the NKR President by the NKR Supreme Council, and in November 1996, as a result of national elections, was reelected President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic

March 20, 1997 - Appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia

March 30, 1998 - Elected President of the Republic of Armenia as a result of extraordinary presidential elections

2003 - 2008 - President of the Republic of Armenia.

2009 - Independent Director of AFK “Sistema”

Has the title of the Hero of Artsakh

Awarded the Order of the Golden Eagle (02.09.1999), Grigor Lusavorich (March 31, 2008), For the Liberation of Shushi (08.05.2004), the Order of the Honorary Legion, the Chevalier of the Great Cross (France), the Order of Honor (International Olympic Committee)
